02. Who we are
We've Done the Work. Now We Finance It.
The Commercial Finance Group wasn't built by bankers. It was built on real experience in the industries we finance.
From farming and agricultural contracting to construction, transport and machinery sales, our roots are in the industries we work with. We know what the gear does, what it costs to run, and what it means when it's parked up half the year.
That experience is what CFG was built around. We understand the business behind the application, not just the numbers on a spreadsheet.
Whether it's a tractor, a 20-tonne digger, working capital or funding a business purchase, we know there's more to the deal than just the interest rate.
Good finance starts with understanding the business.
"There's a big difference between understanding finance and understanding the business you're financing. We believe you need both."

straight answers
Things you're probably thinking.
What types of finance can you arrange?
Everything from tractors, trucks and diggers through to working capital, business acquisitions and commercial lending. If it's for your business, there's a good chance we can
I've only been trading a year. Can you help?
Don't rule yourself out. A solid contract, good security, industry experience or strong cash flow can make a difference. We'll look at the whole picture, not just how long you've had an NZBN.
Will this affect my credit score?
Not just by having a chat or getting an indicative figure. If we move to a formal application, a lender may need to run a credit check. We'll talk you through that first.
What does it cost me?
We're generally paid by the lender when the deal settles. Some transactions may involve a broker fee, particularly more complex commercial deals. If there's a fee, we'll explain it upfront. No surprises.
Is there any obligation to proceed?
None just for having a chat. We'll run through your options, explain the next steps and let you decide. You say go, or you don't. No hard feelings.
Do I need a deposit or property security?
Not always. It depends on what you're financing, your financial position and the lender. Some deals can be done with no deposit or additional security. Others need a bit more behind them.
My bank's been good to me for 20 years. Why use CFG?
Then keep them. We're not here to change what's working. But having another set of eyes on the deal can open up different lenders, structures and options. If your bank's offer is better, we'll say so.
Can you help if l've had credit issues?
Potentially. A few defaults or dishonours don't automatically rule you out. We'll look at what happened, your current position and whether there's a lender that suits. Better to have the conversation than assume it's a no.
I haven't found the asset or business I want to buy yet.
No problem. We can look at your position and give you an idea of what might be achievable before you commit to anything. That way you can go shopping knowing roughly where you stand.
How are you different from the banks?
We work with a range of lenders, not just one. That gives us more options when it comes to rates, terms and structuring a deal. And with our industry background, we understand the business behind the numbers, not just what's on paper.
